Taiwan was once a Chinese province. It was also colonized by the Japanese. Its music is based on the influences of Traditional China and Japan. Taiwan music can be categorized into:
Taiyu Ge (Taiwanese Language Songs)
Mandopop (Mandarin Chinese Pop Music)
Although Taiwan music is closely related to Chinese Han culture, it has records of independent music before the influence of Chinese Han culture.
Western music became an influence also in Taiwan through the Western educational institutions and missionaries.
Taiwan music, together with other Asian countries embraced pop music in the 20th century due to China’s domestic production and consumption of records imported from United States and Europe.
Music of Taiwan
Taiwan music, like the other Asian music, took its cultural music from the everyday activities and events they have like farming, hunting, fishing and hunting. Some also used for important rites and rituals.
They also have songs restating legends, origin tales and concepts of nature.

Holo Music: usually solo singing with accompaniment and operatic forms, slow moving and delicate with bowed and plucked instruments
Beiguan Music: usually double reed instruments with gongs and drums. Also, currently used in popular hand-puppet theatre
